about us
SlothWerks is the largely not-for-profit face of Sloth, a multi-media producer and audio/video engineer based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. From a very young age, Sloth was interested in music and audio editing, dabbling with cassette to cassette dubbing and sound effects in grade school. At Grand Valley State University, Sloth focused on creative writing and audio / video production within his studies for a Communications / Broadcasting degree; he also was one of the first disc jockeys at the on-campus radio station WCKS. This later led to work at 88.1 FM WYCE, a community radio station in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as well as a live disc jockey at events and weddings. However, Sloth’s experimental approach to sound production eventually led him to abandon traditional DJ work in favor of studio work, resulting in album-length compilations available for live streaming on the internet.
In 2004, Sloth re-located the Underground Production Studio facilities to Peninsular Technologies in Ada, Michigan. There he continued to offer audio production work and digital transfer services in a partnership with Peninsular’s existing Conversion Services Department. On June 1st 2012, this partnership ended amicably with Sloth re-acquiring his audio production facilities; the Underground Production Studio continues to offer its professional audio services as well as motion picture film transfers at its original location in Grand Rapids.
SlothWerks and the Underground Production Studio have always been heavily involved in the community and with charitable causes. Visit our Community page for more information on these efforts.
