The Sloth Propaganda Newsletter Number Twenty-Five September 2000

Part Two of Three.

If indeed the Sloth Underground Newsletter is tri-annual, then it looks like we need to squeeze three issues into six months! But we have uncovered ground to travel through... so let us pack up and get going, shall we?

Smoke Clouds Swirl, Congeal, and Disappear...

Lots of things to cover, including unfinished business from this past summer and recent happenings. Check it out!

Sloth Deported from the United States.

The Feds finally got word that Sloth is a Danish name and were able to kick him out from the country for a few weeks. Back in May, Sloth took the slow boat to China but was intercepted by his sister and wound up in Sicily, Italy! Sloth and his Super Sibling toured the island country of Malta and enjoyed the lush coast of the Mediterranean. Sloth tried his best to do what he could with his cheap disposable camera and crafted “Sloth-O-Ramic” views of Sicily on the internet! Check it out at...

Exclusive Photo Tour.

PHOTOS: The Cava Grande was the last and one of the best parts of the trip. Gorgeous, completely secluded... and some of the cleanest (and coldest) water available. Check out Sloth bobbing about trying to stay afloat (right).

PHOTOS: The island kingdom of Malta is located smack in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea south of Sicily. We enjoyed the old city of Mdina, which housed a gorgeous and ornate cathedral (right) and breathtaking views of the sea. Above, caught in a moment of deep meditation, is Sloth’s sister.

James Tours the Northwest United States...

As promised in our last Newsletter, we have a report from our youngest staff member of his trip to the state of Washington... and beyond. Give a warm welcome to James Matthew!

I went on a fun trip and I went mountain climbing. I had fun jumping on their trampoline and I had fun there.

Ace Reporter Silius Sloth also had the pristine pleasure in interviewing James Matthew and learning more of his exciting trip to the state of Washington.

S: Was the drive all the way to the other side of the country long?

JM: Yes.

S: How long did it take you?

JM: It took me four days.

S: What did you do during those days?

JM: I played with my playset. I can get paper out so I can make pictures and make Legos on it.

S: So you went mountain climbing and jumped on a trampoline. Did you do anything else out there, like visit Zoos?

JM: No - there ARE no Zoos out there!

S: Oh. So how about an animal farm?

JM: Yes; we went to the Olympic Game Farm.

(continued from page two)

S: What did you see there?

JM: Buffalo. And I saw wolves and bears and Ben from Grizzly Adams.

S: How old is Ben now?

JM: Um.... he’s.... well, my dad told me he was 73.

S: Wow. That’s pretty old. Were you ever scared when you were mountain climbing?

JM: No.

S: Were you climbing a rope, or walking up a mountain?

JM: Walking. It was steep.

S: How steep?

JM: [shows hands at a 60 degree angle] About this steep. And I was walking up it.

S: Did your legs hurt after that?

JM: No.

S: You are a real trooper. Well, I’m glad you had fun. Thanks for talking with me, James!

JM: [James looks at his watch] And it’s just in enough time.

Sloth Acquires Hefty Official Title.

After many months of silly office work, Sloth found himself in the Records Management department at Old Kent Mortgage. Wanting more of an upper body workout than anything else, he has taken upon himself the distinguished position of “Guy Who Moves Things From Place to Place.” Now he’s more wiry than ever! Anybody got a weight bench we can purchase?

The Underground Prepares To Re-Locate.

Dreams of Home Ownership and a truly Underground Recording Studio have led the staff at the Underground to purchase a home out of which to operate. We have the approval... we just need the house! Any recommendations around the Grand Rapids, MI area? Drop a suggestion at (616)977-0969 or email at slothwerks_productions@yahoo.com.

The Mt. Holly Renaissance Festival.

The entire staff here at the Underground traveled to the east side of the state for the Michigan Renaissance Festival. Much fun was had: James enjoyed the sky chair ride immensely; Sloth easily scaled the rock-climbing wall; and Steph finally got to shop around for an hour or so. Next year, let NO ONE cop out on us! Join us in our sell-out wanna-be period frivolity! The worst thing that can happen is getting a hug from Anisa Clark... or listening to Dead Bob do the same routine for the 1,000,000th time.

Projects @ The Sloth Underground Production Studio.

Sloth Ready to Tackle First Original Solo Project.

Investing yet another thousand dollars, Sloth is ready and willing to hit the catalogues again and find the perfect equipment to allow him to record live sound for his first full-length original solo project. Untitled at the present time, the CD has no slated release date and will most likely be unlistenable to most folks; thank God for Eric Newton, who will most likely remix most of the tracks. Stay tuned for future updates...

Further CD Releases from the Sloth/Newton Combo.

At present writing, two CD bootlegs are underway: Live @ Arco Iris, September 12, 2000 and The Best of Live @ Arco Iris, both of which shall be available soon. Both Eric Newton and Sloth will shortly be revolutionizing their various methods of producing sound and currently their live show is better than ever, so check it out before they go 100% studio!!!

Live @ Arco Iris, September 12, 2000
We feel this show was so fantastic that we are offering it as a stand-alone recording with no post-production.

The Best of Live @ Arco Iris
Remixed parts of live gigs by Sloth, previously of WYCE Radio, and Eric Newton, previously of Ultrahypnosis.

MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC

Madonna Music - Madonna’s newest features a brand new producer, plus William Orbit (from “Ray of Light”) and her long-time co-writer and producer Patrick Leonard. The album features overwhelming digital editing, sampling, and a good mixture of dance tunes (the title track and single) and more melodic, lush pieces featuring full strings. Viva Madonna!

Peace Orchestra Peace Orchestra - A solo effort from P. Kruder of Kruder & Dorfmeister, once again proving that literally anything released from G-Stone records is worth purchasing. A bit on the mellow side, but one may as well have purchased the newest from both Kruder and his long-time partner. Acid Jazz meets world fusion meets... a digital mixing board? Hm.

Bebel Gilberto Tanto Tempo - Astrud’s voice has returned in the beauty and wonder of singer/songwriter Bebel Gilberto. Subdued electronic samba music ala Dimitri From Paris... or is it Tortoise meets Brazilian-style Stan Getz? You decide.

William Orbit Pieces in a Modern Style - The various Strange Cargo releases from Mr. Orbit impressed me more than his electronic studio versions of various classical tunes, although the hard techno single version of Barber’s Adagio was nifty. I think this is more of an LP that he’s always wanted to release but never did, and it is meant as nothing but mere face value. If you don’t own anything by this man, you need to. Check out “The Best of the Strange Cargos”, available everywhere.

Various Artists Phat Global #1 - Hard-hitting world fusion electronica urban trip-hop featuring Sly & Robbie, Baaba Maal, and many, many more. That’s all I need to say. You must own this. Available from Palm Pictures Records.
